Pulse Point
The Power to Save a Life In Saratoga County
A 911-connected app that empowers community members to help in emergencies.
What is Pulse Point?
PulsePoint is a non-profit foundation that leverages location-aware mobile devices to alert CPR-trained citizens to a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) event in their vicinity. The app works in concert with the Saratoga County NY 911 public safety communications center, dispatching an alert to nearby, off-duty rescuers simultaneously with the dispatch of professional emergency services. Any Saratoga County citizen can download the Pulse Point Respond app:
By notifying people who are immediately available, PulsePoint helps to dramatically reduce the time it takes for a victim to receive life-saving CPR and for an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to be deployed. This early intervention is critical, as every minute without CPR decreases a person’s chance of survival. The app also shows the location of nearby AEDs to all responders.
Additional Responder Types:
Registered CPR Responders
Registered CPR Responders are members of the community with medical or rescue training, such as nurses, physicians, public safety retirees, CERT members, other medical professionals, and residential security staff or residents with special neighborhood responsibilities. These community responders are alerted to all nearby cardiac arrest events, including private residences. With nearly 70% of cardiac arrest events occurring in the home, this difference is significant. Like Public CPR Responders, these users are shown a filtered list of emergencies occurring in the community.
Verified Professional Responders
Professional Responders are active Saratoga County public safety employees, typically firefighters, EMS providers, and law enforcement officers. Once verified, they are assigned Professional Responder status by the Office of Emergency Management. Typically these employees respond and care for patients in residential settings while on duty. To encourage adoption, professional users are provided with specialized app capabilities for on-duty use. When off-duty, Professional Responders are alerted to all nearby cardiac arrest events in the jurisdiction.
